4:30 is a brilliant filmed story about an 11 year old boy Zhang Xiao Wu (plyed by Xiao Li Yuan) and the much older tenant Jung (played by Kim Young Jun). A beautiful told story about loneliness and attempt to make friendship on the imaginary and the real plan. 4:30 was released in 2006.

"Eating out 2: sloppy seconds" is a exciting comedy taking place in a American University campus environment. The story provides nothing new to the never ending theme "how to score the georgeous newcomer of the class", except that the picture side, and a good part of the central characters are to the full extent living up to the "gorgeous" label!. A relaxing 1hr 25 mins of entertainment with great laughters and entertainment. The late night show was the "Queer in your ears" film. A series of music videos all with a (more or less directly) visual gay theme. Good music for most of the videos quite a number of the videos was unknown to me.

Small Town Gay Bar is an American documentary about small gay bars in the bible belt at the American east coast. Very interesting documentary about the importance for gay people to have a place to meed with equal minded. I was surpriced to learn that the movie is from 2006, I can't even remember a (Danish) environment that unfriendly during the last approx 30 years. Sure there is still a dramatic need for a gay movement.

Again a CGLFF film seen in Gloria - the cosy small central Cinema. A not-at-all nice movie. Rough, not polite by any means - yet a story that after a somehow long introduction and after getting used to Flamish speak with English subtitles. An interesting story based on a novel by the well-known and controversial Flemish writer Herman Brusselmans – and every bit as gruesome, sexually explicit, violent and blackly comic as its source material. – Ex Drummer is the debut of Koen Mortier (2007) More here ...

Went to see the film in Gloria cinema a small romantic cinema located at the corner of the City Hall Square of Copenhagen. No Regret was a fantastic surprising film for me. My first experience with Korean movies. Definitely worth seeing!.

Again tonight i took the "Late night show" at the CGLFF festival. The Cinematheque is the cinema part of the Danish Film Institute, located in central Copenhagen. Glue was a nice movie and a well told story about being young before your first sexual experience. Very nicely filmed in the golden Argentinean late-afternoon sunlight

Chok! I was not well enough prepared for this movie as the first movie I went to at this years CGLFF film festival. Colourfull (Screaming colours), flashing text slogans from Germany 1970 Socialistic and left side political scene. It is somewhat hard to call this a movie!, intense, rebellion, extreme (picture wise, text wise, colour wise, sexual wise, all ways). It helped a lot when Bruce LaBruce after the film talked about his piece of work and explained it was written shortly after 11th September 2001, where fascistic propaganda in all forms totally vanished from all public media for several months. I remember a few slogans that was repeate countless number of times during the "film". "Make [revolutionary] love not [imperialistic] war.". OK after all and after having got some time to "process" the experience, it was worth seeing, but beautiful as a whole it was not! (Despite the pictures and "romantic" (sex) scenes was very ok for most parts) ;-)

Tonight I took a quick tour through the Tivoli garden to see the Halloween dress. What a surprise. Well done! - And I am amazed to see to what extent the Tivoli staff converted the garden from "Tivoli in summer dress" to "Tivoli in Halloween dress". Well done folks. The Icecream was also really nice, wether just fine to the last huge Gammeldaws Ice Cream this year. (hmm i doubt!)

Today I arrived just after midnight at the Chaos Communication Camp 2007 aka. the International Hacker meeting in Finowfurt near Berlin, Germany. I am traveling together with my friend Michael. We quickly found a good parking space outside the camp area and got our stuff reloaded and carried into the BSD village which is provided by Wim from kd85.com. Wim is the most seriously person I know working with keeping the BSD hackers happy by doing non-coding efforts. The BSD village here provides space for hacking (tables, sofas, etc), creates and organise super food e.g. Grilled veal and fish, has exquisite beer supplies from major bear countries like Belgian (we all bring our own national favorite beers). Groceries are being shopped in the near-by supermarket on a daily basis. In short the BSD village provides a great services for all the BSD Village inhabitants. Thanks Wim and Machtelt for providing this great place and for the exquisite service you provide.

20070629 The Farum County did set out an exaple to be followed!

The Farum County "Farum kommune" model for selling off the county property and rent it back again obviously created an example to be followed by lots of others. Today Frederikshavn county "Frederikshavns kommune" announced it would sell off its energy company as it needs the "dead" capital to renovate schools and homes for old people. The energy compagny is approx 1 billion kroner worth, and even when paying 60% tax to the government, the remaining 40% of the capital is what the county gets by selling out of its "gold" property. The net effect is expectedly that the electricity prices will raise during the following years as the buyer will have a dept of 1 billion to pay interests of.

20070617: Matador musical.

Today we saw the musical "Matador" at the Copenhagen Opera house. The music was performed by "DR Radio Underholdnings Orkæstret". Original story by Lise Nørregård, musical written by Peter Langdal and music written by Bent Fabricius-Bjerre, lyrics by Clemens Telling. The opera is in 3 parts and lasts good 3,5 hours.

Part one is very hectic and lasts approx 5 quarters of an hour. The overall impression summarized in the 10 min break is that I was almost frustrated by the speed the story was told.

Part two had a much more tempered pace, the story was more clear.

Part tree is similar to part two, not bad at all.

Overall especially after a bit frustration after part one, my general impression is summarized here:

  • The dancers (5 men and 5 woman) are really fantastic. They give the whole performance energy and they are really really good. Unfortunately their names are NOT mentioned in the printed program. (Which they absolutely deserve to be)
  • Some of the well known persons from Matador is much changed from the TV version.
  • The Music is very well performed, against all traditions it is electrically amplified as the Orchestra is located 3 different places: In the orchestra lounge in front of the stage, the rhythm group located at the back right corner of the stage and the horn group is located at the back left corner of the stage. All singers wears wireless microphones.
  • The sound is absolutely great.
  • Many new songs has been written, some are OK, others great music.
  • Many of the actors are good singers a few excellent singers.

To people who don't know the Matador story: don't expect a happy end and a fantastic "ala Andrew Lloyd Webber" ending. Matador is a sad ending story which is reflected in the Musical version too.

A great movie - good effects. (approx 30 minutes is computer generated effects) which is the longest ever in a Scandinavian movie. Go see it.

20070111: Danish movie premiere: "Ledsaget udgang"

Tonight my friend Dennis had got premiere tickets to Erik Clausen's new movie "Ledsaget udgang" see also this imdb-link, at Dagmar Theater. We arrived a bit before and the lobby was full of people. I had never been in this cinema lobby with so many people. Erik Clausen presented the movie, told why he did it, that this showing was the first ever public showing, and the gala show at 21 o'clock in Imperial cinema wasn't the first showing. So if any "important" critics wrote that he had been to the first showing, we who was here would know that this was not the case. (This is a typical Erik Clausen habit). Erik Clausen continued telling that film critics could not put him into any known classification so they ended up with classifying his movies as "a Clausen movie". Erik Clausen told another story about being both the writer the instructor and actor at the movie. He used an similar story about Charlie Chaplin who first wrote the story of his dreams where he is kissing the most wonderful girl, then next he was the actor who was kissing the wonderful girl in front of the camera, and afterwards he got all the appraisal of creating this fantastic story. Erik made a point by telling this story that it is a fantastic privilege to be able to write your dream story, then have to realize it by acting himself, and afterwards getting all the roses from the work - (he almost said) it is amazing that you even get paid for doing this. After an inspiring introduction the film was started. It was indeed a typical Clausen movie - besides the main story - another typical Clausen habit was included: some tiny idea presented early in the movie ended up being a success - a way of telling that the "poor" man has great ideas too and that the right inspiration can do the difference. This "right" inspiration is often given by the character played by Erik Clausen himself, which of cause was the case here too. The music is created directly to the movie by Kim Larsen.

20070110: The Copenhagen Opera House

My first visit at the New Copenhagen Opera house. This evening I was to my first opera at the new new opera house in Copenhagen. The opera house was opened in January 2005. Beside being an impressive place, the Opera "Maskerade" was a new modern setup by Kasper Bech Holten and Morgan Alling of the "Maskerade" written in 1906 by Carl Nielsen (the most famous Danish composer). Performed first time at the Danish Royal Theater, "Gamle scene", 11th November 1906. The show tonight was the number 273 performance of the Maskerade played at The Royal Theater (Det Kongelige Teater) in Copenhagen. (I often wonder who has the time to count this sort of statistics)

At the opera the guy next to me, was a Art journalist from New York. We had a great evening and had fun after the play trying to translate the special Danish acronyms (e.g. LO) that occurred during the opera. We joined the tour across the harbor to Nyhavn together, and did a walk around in the old city of Copenhagen talking about history and what we passed on our way. What a nice evening it all ended up being.
